East Ashland in the news again

More “East Ashland” (EA) news from the Herald-Progress March 24th issue. In a recent meeting the Ashland Town Council (ATC) extended the deadline for the developer of EA to submit a site plan. The request was made for a one-year extension which the ATC approved, moving the deadline to April 16, 2012. Ownership of 96 acres will transfer to either Wells Fargo or a third party.

We mourn the passing of a very good friend

Page Wilson was a fine musician, and a good friend to many.  He was an especially good friend of the Coalition. There have been and will be many tributes to Page, his music, and his love of Virginia. But we know he also loved Hanover County, his home, as deeply as Virginia.

In 2007, CHF approached Page for some help.  CHF was in the midst of an all-out campaign to encourage citizens to speak up about the Comprehensive Plan revisions being prepared by the County. Page didn’t just say ‘yes’, he said “YES!”  He brought together some top area musicians.  He insisted that they play for free. He played for free.  And he MC’d the evening at Ashland Coffee & Tea as well.  He packed the house. His freely given talent and connections put CHF over the top, enabling us to publish the 2nd edition of The Hanover Advocate in March 2007, which reached every mailbox in Hanover County.

Page, the Chickahominy Swamp won’t be the same without you. Thank you, dear friend. God speed.
